Shadowrun has become the most recent retro franchise to receive new life from its fans as Kickstarter-funded indie game.

Jordan Weisman, creator of the original Shadowrun, has reunited with members of the original Shadowrun development team to work on Shadowrun Returns, a sequel/reboot to the cyberpunk/fantasy-hybrid RPG for iOS, Android and PC.

Normally I would have to add; "if they can raise the money," except they already did: You crazy, crazy people gave Weisman and his crew over 400,000 dollars in one day.

According to Weisman, Shadowrun Returns will be "a graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game" with "deep story" and "tactical combat". In other words, it's going to be a lot like the original, which most people who are still thinking Shadowrun will probably appreciate.

If you loved Shadowrun back in the day or if the game sounds like it might be up your alley, you should check out the game's Kickstarter page, which has a lot more information on the game's story and development cycle.

The Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter ends on April 29th. The current release window is "January 2013."
