As the bad news continues to roll in for Nokia, Bloomberg reports the Finish company has been overtaken for the first time by Samsung as the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. Nokia had held the title for 14 years, having wrested it from the original mobile phone pioneer Motorola in 1998.

In the first quarter of 2012, Samsung managed to sell an impressive 93.5 million phones worldwide, up 36 percent from the same time last year. Nokia sold 82.7 million phones during the same period.

Nokia's latest hope for turning itself around is the Lumia 900 Windows Phone. Though most observers have praised the device's beautiful design and impressive features, Nokia has had difficulty producing enough units to keep stores well stocked.
