'Read It Later' Is Now 'Pocket,' Goes Free In The App Store

The popular app gets a makeover.

Read It Later, the popular app that lets you save links you come across on your computer for later viewing on your phone or tablet, got a major makeover today. The app has changed its name to "Pocket," it's been completely re-designed with an emphasis on multimedia content, and it's now available for free.

Even though it had the word "read" in its name, Read It Later had always allowed users to save things like YouTube videos in addition to articles. Over time, the video feature ended up being even more popular than reading (go figure) so the company has widely re-positioned itself.

Besides the redesign and name change, Pocket works pretty much just like Read It Later did. To use it, add the Pocket bookmarklet or browser extension to your favorite browsers. From there, you can add any Web page to your list for later consumption on your mobile device. One of the best things about the app, which remains unchanged, is that all of the links you save become accessible even when you're offline. Pocket now organizes them by category with large thumbnail images.

Pocket is available now for free on iOS, Android and Kindle Fire.
