Remember how tablets, specifically the iPad, were supposed to save the magazine industry? Well, according to AllThingsD, digital subscriptions make up a solitary percentage point of the industry’s circulation. However, the market might finally get the boost it needs with today’s launch of Next Issue Media, a Netflix-like platform for magazines from the world’s biggest publishers.

Subscribers to NIM—comprised of Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp. and Time Inc.—will be able to access all titles on offer for only $15 per month (it’s only $10 monthly if you don’t want weekly publications). The selection is currently limited to just 32 titles, but Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, and Esquire are some of the big names available.

At the moment, NIM is exclusive to Android Honeycomb, but an iPad version could be released as early as this summer.
