A Naval FA/18 Hornet jet fighter crashed into a Virginia Beach apartment complex around noon yesterday. The plane began malfunctioning just after takeoff, but the two lucky pilots were safely ejected before it crashed into the Mayfair Apartments. One of the pilots first words after the crash: "I'm sorry" (last image).
The five-building complex is located near Interstate 264, which was closed in both directions yesterday. The pilots suffered minor injuries, and five pedestrians also sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Residents were warned not to touch parts of the ravaged plane, because not only is that extremely dangerous, it's a federal offense to touch a military aircraft.
So much for souveneirs.
