When it was announced that Arrested Development would be revived by Netflix, many fans were wondering just how much of the original show would be retained this time around. We knew that the principle cast would be returning, but it wasn't quite certain what else would carry over. But now, courtesy of Vulture, the show's creator, Mitch Hurwitz, has finally revealed some details on the evolution of Arrested Development.
Originally, the relaunch was going to be set up like an anthology series with each episode focusing on a different member of the Bluth family; however, at the recent National Association of Broadcasters convention, Hurwitz back-peddled on that a bit.
"That is now kind of evolving into becoming more like the old show again," Hurwitz explained. "There's something exciting about trying to break the form again,"
The reason behind the decision change is that Netflix will be offering all 10 new episodes of the series at once, which will allow the show's writers a chance to develop a larger story that fans will be able to watch all in one sitting without long waits in between.
"There's going to be some mystery sprinkled throughout this [but] instead of watching one a week and try to get ahead of it, the hope is [fans] will watch them all together and then go back and look for clues and connections," Hurwitz said. "We'd also like to use the technology to provide additional material, where you might be able to access another part of the story."
There were mysteries in the original series as well, such as just what "Mr. F" really meant and whether or not Maggie Lizer was really blind. Expect a similar multi-episode storyline to happen in these new episodes.
Hurwitz also revealed that Scott Baio will return as Bob Loblaw, the Bluth family attorney. There is no word yet on which other supporting characters will be coming back, but we would be devastated if Henry Winkler didn't return as well.
