In honor of the 3D rerelease of Titanic, an age-old (read: circa 1997) debate has been sparked once more: Could both Rose and Jack have fit on that plank floating in the Atlantic after the ship sunk?

Well, the question that's probably sparked a lot of drunken debates and subsequent bar fights has been solved by the Internet. Well, and science - but mostly the Internet. Users at Reddit crunched the numbers, and, as it turns out, the answer is a resounding "no." The plank would not have been able to stay above water with their combined weights, as the force of buoyancy would be less than the force of gravity.

So, there you have it. At least someone paid attention in Physics class.
