The potential cast for Iron Man 3 just got a little more impressive as Deadline is now reporting that Jessica Chastain (The Help, Tree of Life) is in talks with Marvel about a role in the star-studded sequel. If a deal is reached, Chastain will play a sexy scientist that can also match the intellect of Tony Stark.

A name for the character hasn't been released yet, so there is no telling if she would be playing someone from the original comic books or not. However, the movie is rumored to be taking its cues from the "Extremis" storyline from the comics, so it is possible that Chastain will be playing Maya Hansen, an old friend of Stark's who developed the Extremis Virus during the story.

Other names rumored to be up for the role were Diane Kruger, Gemma Arterton, and Isla Fisher, but after Marvel realized that Chastain's schedule had cleared up, the studio opened up serious negotiations with her. Along with Chastain, both Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce have been rumored to be up for parts in Iron Man 3, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
