After a long wait, the Instagram party is finally open to Android users. The San Francisco-based photo-sharing startup surprised observers this morning by turning up in the Google Play store.

Formerly an iOS exclusive, Instagram had been promising an Android version for months, recently teasing the app at SXSW. The app's interface appears virtually identical to the iOS version, and is available for all versions of Android 2.2 and above.

Instagram says it now has over 30 million users and an Android waiting list of over 430,000. Users have uploaded over 1 billion photos.
