After numerous false starts, rumors, and rumblings, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will finally begin filming this summer. The movie will again be directed by Robert Rodriguez with a script written by series creator Frank Miller and Departed writer William Monahan. Based off of Miller's comic series over at Dark Horse, this sequel will be split into three short stories, with one of them being the titular A Dame to Kill For and two others that have yet to be announced.
In a press release put out by Dimension Films, Miller said, "The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first."
“The first question I am always asked is 'When will you make another Sin City?',” said Rodriguez. “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”
Casting for the movie begins next week, so we don't know as of yet who will be returning from the original. But the A Dame to Kill For comic features Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen's characters from the first movie returning for this story, and it will be interesting to see if either of those roles would need to be recast. Owen and Rourke were the highlight of the first Sin City, and it would be nearly impossible to imagine this one working without them.
