The spirit of the 80s, by the way, has awful hair and is named "Wildcat".

Double Dragon was one of the premiere beat 'em ups back in the very heyday of the genre. And what do we do with popular but forgotten franchises? We reboot them!

Majesco announced today that WayForward, the developers behind A Boy And His Blob, Contra 4, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Bloodrayne: Betrayal, will be updating the series for a new generation—a generation that loves retro shit from the '80s and beyond. Double Dragon: Neon will play that up as much as possible, throwing around phrases like "online bro-op", "bodacious", "gnarly", and "baditude" like the last 25 years never happened. And that's just the press release.

The game will feature an "innovative ‘mix tape’ level up system and power-up high-fives" that'll "push it to the limit", as well as online co-op and updated graphics. It's set to come out this summer on XBLA and PSN—we can't wait to see some footage of the game in action.

Check out the official site here, and don't bother clicking all the buttons—they don't do anything. Double Dragon: Neon sounds like a tubular successor to the ace original. Are you totally amped up? Give us the 411 in the comments or on Twitter. Dude.
