"Angry Birds" Animated Shorts Launching This Fall, Movie Could Land In 2015

We'll find out why the birds are so angry all the time.

Ever wonder why those Angry Birds are so pissed off all the time? We always thought it was because the pigs stole their eggs, but apparently there might be more to it—enough to warrant a series of 52 animated shorts and at least one feature-length film, The Guardian reports.

Speaking at the MIPTV conference in Cannes over the weekend, Rovio's head of animation Nick Dorra said the shorts will roll out "on all possible devices" this Fall, though they're still negotiating exactly which devices that will include. Finnish animation studio Kombo, acquired by Rovio last year, is working on the shorts, while former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel may be involved in the development of a full-length movie. Norra said the film would have to wait until after 2014, though.

"It's about telling more engaging stories... and deeper thoughts, deeper feelings of the characters, such as why are they always angry?" said Dorra, and that in the future, Angry Birds will be "less and less about the slingshot" and "more and more about the characters".

Whether a handful of irate, spherical fowl are worth fleshing out is a different discussion altogether. Norra also mentioned that they're working on a new, non-Angry Birds IP, with more to be revealed later this year. Are you still on board the Angry Birds train, or is it starting to lose its appeal? Are you excited to dig deeper into what makes them so mad? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
