Since it was patentend in 1892, the matchbook has seen very little in the way of innovation. Until now. Quirky, the company that specializes in cord management for your work space, is working on a project calledStrike which it hopes will take the place of pocket-sized lighters and matchbooks for many.

Made of brushed stainless steel, Strike is able to hold 45 matches and dispenses them one at a time when the top dial is twisted open. The barrel is coated in strike material (the stuff on the bottom of a matchbook that you swipe your matches across), allowing you to light the match as you pull it out. If it fails to light, there's an emergency strike area on the bottom on container.

Quirky lists the Strike as an "upcoming" project, so there's no word on when it will be available or how much it'll cost.
