Spotify Keeps Free Music Coming After All

Rumors of its death were greatly exaggerated.

None

A couple months ago American Spotify users were getting a little freaked out about the possibility that unlimited free music streaming on the service would be cut off. There were reports that unlimited streaming was only being offered for free as a part of a six month trial, which was due to expire in January. We had a hard time believing that Spotify would really stop the music, and now it's clear that they won't... at least not any time soon.

Spotify confirmed today that it's extending free unlimited streaming for an indefinite amount of time.

Peter Kafka at AllThingsD makes the reasonable speculation that the company is delaying throttling free streaming because it wants to keep drawing in lots of new users, which will help its efforts to crack a valuation of $3.5 billion.

So fear not, Spotify users. For now, at least, crank up the jams.
