Peter Molyneux Leaves Microsoft And Lionhead To Join Start Startup 22 Cans

Molyneux founded the "Fable" developer in 1997, and now he's left the company behind.

Peter Molyneux, the mind behind Populous, Black and White, Fable, and that creepy Milo thing for Kinect, has stepped down from his roles as head of Lionhead Studios and Microsoft Studios Europe's creative director. He's heading to 22 Cans, a new studio formed by Lionhead's former CTO Tim Rance.

He'll remain on as a consultant to follow through on the development of Kinect spin-off Fable: The Journey. "I felt the time was right to pursue a new independent venture," he said in a statement sent to vg24/7. "I’d like to thank the team at Lionhead, as well as our partners at Microsoft Studios for their support, dedication and incredible work over the years.”

He had plenty of other nice things to say about his former employers, which is something that we can definitely relate to. That fight club was like a family to us.

Are you excited to see what Molyneux can produce without Microsoft's shackles (and massive financial backing)? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
