Yesterday, director Michael Bay nearly cracked the internet in half when it was revealed that he would be turning the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into aliens for the upcoming film reboot. By making the characters into aliens, Bay will have changed decades of established Ninja Turtles stories and made the word "Mutant" in the title of the movie itself completely useless.
But instead of listening to the fan outrage and explaining the change in a rational way, Bay responded in typical fashion on his website, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."
We're not exactly sure how changing the Turtles into aliens makes the story more "complex" or "richer," but then again, no one on Earth can understand the explosion-addled mind of Bay. At this point all we can do is hope for the best.
