Konami has announced that the Metal Gear series—one of gaming most popular and celebrated—has sold over 31.1 million copies since its introduction some 25 years ago. It's spanned around 20 titles, according to Wikipedia (which we're not about to contradict), including mobile phone games and digital graphic novels, but excluding MGR: Revengeance, which hasn't come out yet.

The first Metal Gear appeared on the MSX2 (whatever that is, boy does it feel good to be young), and the series' latest release was the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Konami must be preeeetty proud of themselves.

31.1 million units sold is pretty impressive, but is that the key to happiness? Let us know your opinion in the comments or on Twitter.
