The mysterious tale of how Nicolas Cage's copy of Action Comics #1 was stolen from his mansion is now set to get a film adaptation by Reno 911! creators Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon at Lionsgate, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story will focus on how a group of nerds successfully stole the legendary comic that features the first appearance of Superman from Cage's home, and it will have more of a comedic tone than a typical heist movie.
The theft made headlines when it occurred in 2000, and the issue was thought to be gone forever. But recently, it showed up in an abandoned storage locker and was sold for $2.1 million at an auction. There is no word on who will star in the movie, but the script was written with the possibility of Cage playing a role; however, the site is reporting that the chances for that are slim at this point. Jason Statham has been rumored to play a part, but sources for THR have denied any involvement.
Cage is a lifelong Superman fan, and he was even originally rumored to play the Man of Steel in the abandoned Tim Burton movie, Superman Lives. If he does agree to take the role, and we certainly hope that he does, it might be the closest that he ever gets to being involved with Superman on the big screen.
