After months of speculation and rumor, it has finally been confirmed that Liam Neeson will be returning to Christopher Nolan's Batman franchise as Ra's Al Ghul in this summer's The Dark Knight Rises, according to Super Hero Hype.
The news comes from the production notes for Neeson's latest movie, Wrath of the Titans, where it says, "Neeson next appears in Peter Berg's actioner Battleship, and he also will be seen in Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated action thriller The Dark Knight Rises."
It still isn't known if the role will be substantial or just a brief cameo, but this should certainly come as welcome news to fans of the Caped Crusader. Ra's Al Ghul is one of Batman's most dangerous enemies in the comics, so it was disappointing to see him get dispatched so quickly in 2005's Batman Begins. But now that he's back, hopefully he can live up to the standards that comic book writers have set for the character over the decades.
The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters on July 20.
