If Forbes says it, it has to be true. Besides, we're not really surprised. Newell is one of the smartest people in game development. He's also one of the few who can almost always please fans—and that's without ever saying a word about the one game we want most. It's all part of the plan.
His estimated net worth is apparently sitting at $1.5 billion, which places him 854th out of 1,226 billionaires across the world. Of course, Newell is always mum on Valve's and his earnings, so Forbes pieced together that figure through analysis and guesswork. But they estimate Valve's worth as at least $3 billion, and Newell owns more than half the company's shares. So there you go.
