New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin and Super Bowl XLVI MVP/New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning are the top sports figures in the city right now, so it makes sense that all of the hot Manhattan restaurants would be tumbling over themselves to serve them.
Some clever folks over at Deadspin decided to perform a heat check, so they called 18 restaurants posing as assistants for Lin and Manning, trying to secure reservations for 6 at 8 p.m. yesterday evening. Only Per Se and Masa deaded both of them.
Babbo could do 8:30 p.m. for Manning because he had dined there before, and 8:45 for Lin. L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon, on the other hand, could accomodate Lin at 8 p.m. and Manning half an hour later.
When the smoke and mirrors cleared, Manning was rejected twice and Lin four times. Some restaurants offered to seat Manning at other times; Per Se was the lone spot to offer him a table more than a half an hour later than the original request.
L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon was the only place that Lin got the best of Manning.
