The Twilight Zone is the quintessential example of an "ahead of its time" property. Conceived by the iconic Rod Serling, the masterful CBS-aired genre anthology series, full of societal revelations and genuine scares, hasn't lost any of its visceral impact 48 years after its initial conclusion.

Serling and his untouchable team of writers (which included the deadly one-two combo of Richard Matheson and Charles Beaumont) alternated from self-contained tales of terrifying horror, lighthearted fantasy, and allegorical sci-fi. To this day, The Twilight Zone's most common themes (fear of the unknown, tyrannical leaders, the darkness within common men) still give us the willies, as does the show's nightmarish, hynotic theme music.
