17. Dazed And Confused (1993)
Chances of getting laid (1-10): 6. Pretty good, as long as everyone stays awake and doesn’t get too high.
The drink situation (1-10): 4. Beer, beer, and more beer. It’s cheap and does a good job of getting you drunk, even if it might not taste so hot.
Chances of police interference (1-10): 8. Drunk (and high) high-school teenagers partying in the woods? Even in the much more laid-back 1970s scene, this could attract the fuzz.
How’s the music? (1-10): 9. Another batch of great '70s tunes! While Boogie Nights stuck more toward the funky music, Dazed And Confused leaned more heavily on the metal and rock and roll genres. This flick also led to two soundtrack albums.
Richard Linklater’s 1993 coming-of-age comedy Dazed And Confused features one of the most amazing ensemble casts of all time. Just look at some of these names: Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, Parker Posey, Adam Goldberg, and Joey Lauren Adams. Wow. And the one thing that bonds all of these stars together? They sure know how to throw a high school party. At least on film.
After listening to some tunes at the Emporium, drinking, smoking a truckload of pot, and playing mailbox baseball, the Lee High School students (and the older dude who can’t stop hanging out with high school kids, played to perfection by McConaughey) all head out to the vacant field under the Moonlight towers to tap a few kegs before the night is through.
What follows is a nearly perfect depiction of a high school kegger thrown in the middle of the woods. There’s beer flowing, fights starting, people making out, and everyone ultimately learning that sometimes a good party can bring people together in ways they never imagined possible. Or maybe they can just get really drunk and stoned. Either way, it’s a good time.
