In case you didn't already know, Tom Savini is a legend in the movie business. As a special effects and makeup artist, Savini has given birth to some of the most horrific creatures in the history of cinema. His work has appeared in movies like Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Friday the 13th, and dozens of other flicks.

But now Savini is lobbying for a different kind of job. In an interview with Movie Web, the effects wizard said that he has been openly campaigning for the role of The Governor on AMC'sThe Walking Dead. He even noticed the resemblance between himself and the comic book version of the character.

"Listen, I have been campaigning to be the governor on that damn thing with Greg Nicotero for over a year," he told the site. "Everytime I see the graphic novel, and I see a picture of the governor, who looks just like me, I send Greg a picture. I just won't give up."

However, Savini also noted that he has some stiff competition for the role in the form of Martha Marcy May Marlene star, John Hawkes.

"Last time I talked to him about it, when I was in Los Angeles, he said they were going after a name for that part. I said, 'Who?' He said John Hawkes. Well, I never heard of John Hawkes," Savini explained. "Apparently he was up for an Academy Award. He was up for something called Winter's Bone. That's whom they are going after for The Governor."

We'll see if Savini gets his wish when the casting announcement is officially made.
