M.I.A. certainly didn't earn any extra cool points with Nicki Minaj by sticking her middle finger up during their performance with Madonna at halftime of the Super Bowl.

"My first feeling was disappointment just because— only because— of my respect for Madonna," Nicki told Ryan Seacrest. "There are fines that go into these things, I just thought, 'Oh my god, I hope they don't penalize Madonna.'"

She did, however, give M.I.A. something of a pass, and said given Madonna's history, it wasn't all that unexpected.

"Madonna knows the artist that M.I.A. is, and, you know, it was her decision to take the risk with all of us," she said. "We're kind of all firecrackers, and she took that risk and she's done some crazy things in becoming the icon that she is and I think that's why she was able to forgive M.I.A."

Would she do it herself though? Hell no.

"I love M.I.A. and I don't really want to say anything that is the wrong thing, but me personally, I couldn't see myself doing it," she said. "Just because of respect for Madonna because I wouldn't want any backlash to come back on Madonna."
