Legendary Pictures Officially Cancels Alex Proyas' "Paradise Lost"

John Milton's epic poem won't be seeing the light of day any time soon.

Legendary Pictures' big-budget film adaptation of John Milton's epic poem, Paradise Lost, has been canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie was set to be directed by Alex Proyas and was going to star Bradley Cooper as Lucifer, along with a supporting cast that included Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Benjamin Walker, Camilla Belle, and Rufus Sewell.

The reasoning behind the cancellation stems from the fact that the film's budget would have been over $120 million, which the studio was not willing to commit to. With a story so dependent on special effects, the film would have had to feature effects on the level of Avatar in order to truly be able to compete and create a buzz; however, this would have been impossible to achieve with the amount of money that Legendary wanted to invest.
