After years of speculation, the latest reimagining of the Dark Knight's origins will finally see the light of day.

After being announced all the way back in 2009, Batman: Earth One has been one of the most anticipated, yet mysterious, projects at DC. But aside from some initial details and scant pieces of art, the book seemingly disappeared from the radar of comic book fans everywhere after years of silence about the title.

However, that's all about to change as DC has finally set a definite July release date for the book, according to The Source blog. Written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Gary Frank, this story will recount the origins and early days of the Dark Knight from angry orphan to superhero. Much like Superman: Earth One did back in 2010, this book will update Batman's beginnings for more modern times with an eye towards realistic and grounded storytelling.

This story will exist in a vacuum, completely separate from other Batman books of the past and present, so fans won't need to do any prior reading in order to enjoy this. And with the July release date seemingly designed to take advantage of the debut of The Dark Knight Rises, Earth One should appeal to Batman fans looking to get into comic books for the first time.
