A consumer and worker advocacy group has drafted an online petition in an attempt to get Apple to build its next iPhone in an ethical manner, reports MSNBC.

The petition asks the world's most valuable technology company to "overhaul the way its suppliers treat their workers in time for the launch of the iPhone 5." It was created by a group called SumOfUs which describes it self as a "movement of consumers, workers and shareholders speaking with one voice to counterbalance the growing power of large corporations."

The condition of the factories that build Apple's popular iPhone and iPad has been under heavy scrutiny by the press as of late. The New York Times ran a piece last week where an Apple executive admitted to knowing about the abuse that occurs in the factories, saying "We've known about labor abuses in some factories for four years, and they're still going on…Why? Because the system works for us.”
