Joystiq's got the first official info on the next Amnesia title, which has been significantly teased over the last week or so. It's called Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, and it's a collaboration between Amnesia: The Dark Descent creator Frictional Games and Dear Esther devs thechineseroom. They're hoping to get the game out by Halloween, though that's not set in stone.

The game concerns "wealthy industrialist" Oswald Mandus, whose disastrous expedition to Mexico sees him returning home with a terrible fever. He's out cold for months, all the while dreaming of a mysterious, dark machine. When he finally awakens, he hears the machine rumble to life. We're guessing it's a machine for pigs. And judging by the teaser image above, pigs=humans.

The whole thing evokes imagery of slaughterhouses and torture chambers, which'll fit perfectly in the world of Amnesia. A Machine For Pigs won't be a direct sequel, but it will be set in the same universe. Hopefully we'll see a Mac version as well, like the original.

Are you terrified at the prospect of sitting through another Amnesia game? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter.
