In the six months that I've had my monthly St. Louis residency, I've prided myself on musical fluidity. Being able to move around between styles and genres both within an event, and between different monthly events has been the primary objective. This month, we celebrated the world of house music alongside The Mo E All Stars and my mans, DJ Scotty Mack. I loved it 'cause it took me back to my initial introduction to St. Louis, back in '06, with Luan and his FLY parties at The Upstairs Lounge. Aside from a few folks who didn't read the press release and were expecting something else, we rocked Lola something lovely for five hours, strictly house music, sprinkled with a few dance classics. Incredible night. Thanks again to Chris Hansen and his staff for providing me with such a cool platform in one of the last places I'd have ever expected to have a platform of my own.

Incredible night of Global Afro Dance Music alongside the Chi-Town OG Ron Trent. For those of you not knowing, you are looking at house music royalty. Luckily for me, I can call him one of my many brothers from another mother on this planet. Always an honor and a privilege to rock alongside this cat, for reals. I've been a fan of his for well over 15 years, and we personally go back to the beginnings of Jump N Funk in August of 2001, when we were the after work party that warmed up the room for Giant Step during Ron's long standing residency with them. It's crazy how God works sometimes, aligning you with your idols and forcing you to raise your own bar. Thanks for the invite, my mellow, and here's to many more. Salute my mans Geology for the surprise Chicago visit too! Sneaky bastard!

Homeboy walked up on me with Wax Poetics Issue 39 in his hands, flipped right to my article, and snatched a sharpie out of his chest pocket like he had been rehearsing the move. I've toured the world for a good 11 years steady now and this is about the eight or ninth time in that span of time that someone has asked me for an autograph. Funnier still is the last time it happened was my dude Rod One, at the very same party a month beforehand. We're on to something in Orlando…and I am extremely flattered whenever this happens, to this day.

Never met a team of guys younger than me who were so thirsty for real musical history and willing to invest in giving that history to their clientele. I can't say enough how dope this event is, both for me and for the folks in the crowd. Breaking ground can be a thankless task at times, but not at The Movement…not at all. We are learning 'em, one record at time, on the dance club history that preceded them. Thank you once again, Lazy Afternoon crew, for another night to remember. Next month, we may need more security!
