Around the time when everyone is toasting to the new year with glasses of bubbly and spiffy new suits, the film blogging community ushers out the traditional Best Of The Year lists, a celebratory way to close off another calendar’s worth of quality cinema—but ours is the only one that matters, right? Technically, though, we shouldn’t be so congratulatory toward 2011’s cinematic output; with theater attendance reaching a 16-year low, movie ticket sales dipped to $10.2 billion last year, a 3% drop-off from 2010, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Something tells us 2012 is going to be a much better year for box office analysts. The next 12 months contain a slew of guaranteed cash cows, from Marvel Comics’ long-awaited superhero love-fest (The Avengers) to Christopher Nolan’s last trip into Gotham City (The Dark Knight Rises) and Peter Jackson’s reunion with Gandalf the Grey and the rest of author J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle Earth residents (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).

With that degree of blockbuster in mind, as well as Academy Award bait and potentially sick genre flicks, here’s all you’ll need to plan ahead for a year’s share of nights inside the nearest multiplex: our list of The 25 Most Anticipated Movies Of 2012.
