It's no surprise that Resident Evil 6 will contain multiplayer in addition to its single player offerings, since recent titles like RE: Operation Raccoon City and RE: The Mercenaries 3D have focused on multiplayer action. Resident Evil 5 had co-op as well, though RE 6's Xbox Live Marketplace listing, newly added, has revealed that the new game's multiplayer will be bigger than 5's two-player co-op.
The listing claims that RE 6 will feature 2-player offline co-op, 6-player online co-op, and 8-player online multiplayer. That would make this easily the most extensive multiplayer offering in any RE game yet, which begs the question: will Operation Raccoon City be obsolete before it's even arrived?
We'll have to wait for more details before we can be sure. Capcom sent a statement to Joystiq claiming they'll "have further clarification in the coming weeks." That's certainly not a denial. Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.
