Next Xbox and PlayStation Consoles May be Revealed at E3 2012

Sony and Microsoft's announcements set to undermine the Wii U release?

None

Could Microsoft and Sony possibly be gearing up to reveal their next generation of consoles just six months from now? MCV reports that their "third-party publishing sources" have indicated that Microsoft has "signalled" this would be the case, for the next Xbox, at least.

For Sony's part, MCV claims that "execs at the PlayStation firm have made it clear to third-parties that they will not be left behind this time," meaning a PS4 announcement is imminent as well.

Could they be any more vague? To us, an unveiling now would seem premature, given Kinect has hardly been out the gate for more than a year and the PS3 still has plenty of steam. But the two companies may be gearing up for the big reveals for no other reason than to undermine the Wii U announcements also believed to be coming at E3.

With the PS4 and Xbox-Next finally unveiled, would the Wii U still perform at the 2012 holiday season? Do you think Sony and Microsoft's purported "10-year console lifespans" are up after only six years? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.
