Starting this April, Marvel will be releasing "Avengers Art Appreciation" variant covers for most of their high-profile books. These covers will imagine Earth's Mightiest Heroes as illustrated by history's greatest artists like Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Monet, and others. A roster of the company's current talent such as Alex Maleev, Michael Kaluta, Gabriele Dell’otto, and Greg Horn will be channeling these legendary artists to bring impressionism, classical portraits, and abstract styles to the comic book world.
Eagle-eyed fans of comics and art history will be able to see super-powered recreations of classic pieces (like "Washington Crossing the Delaware") as well as covers that are inspired by these legendary artists' style. Hopefully this is just the first in a long line of "Art Appreciation" cover initiatives because we would love to see Rocket Raccoon illustrated in the style of Salvador Dalí.
