Internet Explorer 6 Usage Slips Below 1%, Microsoft Celebrates

Good riddance.

While Google and Mozilla duke it out for the title of second most used Internet browser, Microsoft is celebrating the fact that one its browsers is barely being used at all.

Internet Explorer 6, the browser that at one point held over 90% of the market, is now being used by less than 1% of Web surfers. But don't cry for Microsoft—the company has been trying for years to get people to stop using it.

Why? Well, the short of it is IE 6 is riddled with security flaws, doesn't play well with new Internet standards, and is slow. Microsoft has been urging developers to stray away from the browser and adopt its newer offerings.

Microsoft was so happy that IE 6 hit this new low that it baked a cake (seen above) in celebration.
