Seoul, Korea’s perverted neo-soul genius confronts Queens, New York’s depraved rap weirdo on this night of mayhem, rawness, and panty chasing. Essentic, in affiliation with Fat Buddha, presents Battle of the Superfreaks, a party showcasing live performances by two young talents you probably haven’t heard of, but won’t forget after they serenade your soul with extraordinary crooning and mooning.
Raised in a family of musicians, Jinbo is a multifaceted artist whose distinct style sits in direct contrast with the rest of Korea’s crowded music scene. Having collaborated with critically-acclaimed Korean artists like Epik High, Drunken Tiger, and Dynamic Duo, it was ultimately his J. Dilla-influenced LP, Afterwork, that allowed his talent to truly stand out. Having won the R&B/soul album of the year at the 2010 Korean Music Awards, Jinbo most recently returned to the lab to work on his next album and a bevy of international projects. Rekstizzy is a Queens-bred rapper who’s been a crowd favorite at karaoke rooms, room salons, and club nights all over the East Coast. He’s a proud student of New York City’s rap greats, but also bares the influence of humorous cats like Devin the Dude and J-Zone. His debut, Fake It Til You Naked, has garnered cringes for the cover, but approval for the music. A hustler of many trades, if Rekstizzy is not rapping or freeloading off of your bottles, you’ll spot him posting pictorials of chicks on Tumblr.
In addition, fellow Queens native DJ T*O*N*Y will be on the ones and twos to warm up the night. So, ladies and gentlemen, get ready to have your opticals and aurals enticed, 'cause we're going to make Rick James proud with this evening of freaky escapade.
