The news a couple weeks ago that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developers GSC Game World had been permanently shuttered hit the gaming world hard, as anticipation for their followup, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, has been building for years now.

Given the developer's predicament, the status of the game was unknown, but a message from the franchise's official Twitter yesterday gave us hope: "The Stalker team continues work on the project and hopefully everything will turn out well. Good Hunting Stalkers!"

Whether the team is moving to a different developer, the current developers will finish the game under contract with a publisher, or GSC isn't closing down after all remains to be seen. Hopefully the game's quality won't take a hit, though, since the first one's post-apocalyptic struggles have left us salivating for more, and we'd hate to be disappointed.

Any theories? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook or Twitter.
