The January issue of Game Informer will have the full scoop on the upcoming South Park RPG, a collaboration between THQ and Obsidian Entertainment (the developer behind Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas). South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will oversee the project, in addition to writing the script and performing the dialogue. They want to assure fans that it'll be legit:

"Unlike the cash-in Acclaim titles from over a decade ago, this ambitious project is a full-scale RPG for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As the new kid in South Park, it'll be up to you to make friends and defend the town from a wide range of threats."

South Park doesn't have a stellar track record when it comes to games, and Obsidian's previous two titles were buggier than Randy Marsh's computer when he's done getting "ectoplasm" all over the walls. But Parker and Stone have always been in tune with gaming culture—just check out our "Complete History of Video Games on South Park" for proof. With them calling the shots, we can hope that playing the South Park RPG will be as rewarding as building a ladder to Heaven.
