Simply a home for user-generated content originally—usually via smartphones—Twitvid has been repositioned into an “open YouTube,” a full-blown video-hosting community for all types of content, including existing, non-user-created pieces.
Using Twitter’s platform to its benefit, Twitvid will allow for videos to be viewable within feeds, creating, as Twitvid CEO Mo Adham describes, “a place where you can talk and watch at the same time.” Additionally, users can create video subchannels that can individually be followed.
Whether or not this opens up Twitvid to be the destination for all the unlicensed content usually removed immediately from YouTube—a new frontier, if you will—remains to be seen, but chances are good for at least a short time.
