Google made yet another acquisition on Friday, snapping up RightsFlow, a 20-person company specializing in processing music royalties. The move now gives YouTube a system for seeking out and paying royalties to tens of thousands of songwriters whenever their music is included in a video.
Publishers have long profited from authorized music videos, but now any of the 150 million videos generated by everyday users can offer revenue streams to both their uploaders and the songwriters behind whatever music is used, if the videos go viral.
Finally, M.O.P. can get paid off of Sesame Street's "Ante Up."
