Facebook Reveals Top Trends Of 2011, Our Collective Narcissism

The social network unveils the year's memology.

In a posting annoyingly titled “Memology 2011,” Facebook revealed the top status updates and global topics on the social network over the course of the past year. Not surprisingly—with Facebook being everyone’s personal soapbox-meets-scrapbook and all—the top statuses were “lms (like my status)” and the opinion-validating “tbh (to be honest).”

The most popular topic amongst the 700 million users was the death of Osama bin Laden, followed by the Packers’ Super Bowl win, Casey Anthony, Charlie Sheen, and the death of Steve Jobs, showing that sometimes we do tend to care about things besides ourselves—albeit mostly trivial matters.
