Cop Fired for Doing 143 MPH While Drunk Wants His Job Back

Or, words to deter you from drinking and driving.

None

Sometimes even the law is on the wrong side of the law. Case in point: Derrick Curtis Saunders was nabbed last year for traveling at 88 mph hour over the speed limit while drunk.

After clocking in at Sauders in at 143 mph and a blood-alcohol level of 0.089 percent (just over the the legal limit of 0.08), Manager of Safety Alex Martinez relived Saunders of his post.

"The extraordinary high speed alone is stunning," Martinez testified. "The fact that you drove at this dangerous speed while your ability to drive was impaired by alcohol is shocking. In addition, you were driving at night and with a passenger in the car."

According to court records, in light of admitting to guilt, Saunders was also sentenced to 5 days in jail, fined $300 and made to do 100 hours of community service. But, Saunders is now contesting his penalty, saying that his dismissal is  "disproportionate to the offenses alleged and/or is excessive so as to be punitive rather than corrective in nature."

But, considering this appeal comes from a cop who escaped a felony in 2009 for pulling his gun on a McDonald's employee because "he grew impatient waiting for his food", we think it's better Saunder's grease-and-booze covered badge stay retired for good.
