Straight from Famitsu (and kindly translated by Google, though they seem to have got the headline slightly wrong) comes the news that the 3DS has exceeded 4 million sales in Japan, a healthy milestone. If we knew more about Japanese culture we'd be able to comment whether this had anything to do with the holiday season, but we'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 also sold more then a million units each, which has to make us wonder what the other 2 million people who apparently own the 3DS there are playing. There isn't a new Dragon Quest, is there?

Giant Bomb reports that the system had sold 1.65 million units as of November, a number which has no doubt surged since the holidays. Anyone still think the 3DS is a failure? Let us know in the comments or on Facebook or Twitter.
