MIT student Tyler Christensen would have a fan in Lord Raiden if he saw this Mortal Kombat theme-playing, lightning-spewing hat in Edenia. Christensen made himself a Dual Resonant Solid State Tesla Coil hat, and then had it play "Techno Syndrome" by the Immortals, colloquially known as that "awesome theme song from the first Mortal Kombat movie."

If you listen closely, you'll also hear the Harry Potter theme while the hat discharges semi-tame lightning bolts. Tyler, who freely stipulates that this is "a really bad idea," is still generous enough to document his project for others who might also follow in his bad footsteps. Sadly, Christensen's dream of becoming lord of the cheesy-techno-and-lightning-dispensing world were crushed as the Tesla hat broke the day before Halloween.

The video above is from the hat's first live test run. Once Tyler has finished with his school work at MIT, sometime next February, he has promised to return to the "hatcoil" project to work out the kinks. In the meantime, you can check out his work in glorious technical detail by watching the video above or clicking the link here. We bet this is exactly what Nikola Tesla had in mind when he invented the alternating current.
