Fans of college sports got a rank taste of reality after scandals brought out at Penn State, Syracuse, and FAMU, respectively. While the latter deals with a hazing death at the HBCU, the former deals with the issues of sexual abuse of children. Tyler Perry, a survivor himself, has penned an open letter to a former 11-year-old who spoke out about their alleged abuse at the hands of former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.
"I don't know your name, but I know your face. I don't know your journey, but I know where you are. I am your brother!" the letter begins. "I must tell you, what you have done is so courageous. The strength that it must have taken for your 11-year-old voice to speak out about such a horrible act is something that I didn't have the strength or courage to do at that age." The choice words for Jerry Sandusky appears in this week's Newsweek magazine.
While the rest of the world seemstoberevolting, the country has been rocked by the shocking allegations. Perry's words of encouragement to the boy put a spotlight on the filmmakers own past, but his sentiments hint a realization of how the system has broken. "No matter what happens next, just know that the hardest part is over," Tyler writes in the open letter. "I wish the coward and very sick individual who hurt you would have the courage to admit his wrong and not put you through a tril. But he will most likely profess his nnocence until the bitter end. And probably, all the while, yelling at the top of his lungs about all he has done to help troubled young boys." #ChuuchPreachTabernacle.
