Twitter Hosts First TV Premiere Courtesy of Sundance Channel

New possibilities for the social media platform.

None

Twitter will premiere the first episode of the new season of Sundance Channel show Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys today, via a Twitvid embed on the channel’s Twitter, marking the first time the social media platform has debuted a TV show.

Up to this point, Twitter has only been used to debut a trailer, for Paramount’s Super 8. However, the platform should see an uptick in similar activity, as shows with small primetime viewing audiences can instead leverage relatively large social media followings as Twitter increasingly integrates ad services. For instance, the likes of NBC’s Community, which regularly attracts about 2-3 million viewers, tallies about 1 million Facebook likes and 50,000 Twitter followers, a favorable ratio for targeted web content.

Suddenly, "Twitter TV" doesn't seem so farfetched.
