Sony Prepping “New Form of Television”

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Sony CEO Howard Stringer has revealed his company’s plan to roll out a revolutionary new television platform, merging smartphones, tablets, laptops, and TV, in the coming months.

“I spent the last five years building a platform so I can compete against Steve Jobs,” Stringer told the paper. “It’s finished, and it’s launching now.” Jobs was at work on his own TV set prior to his death, according to biographer Walter Isaacson,

It’s been a while since Sony has been considered revolutionary. The Walkman, Discman, and Playstation may have been pioneering products, but more recent devices such as the MiniDisc player haven’t exactly yielded breakthroughs.
