Dual core, shmual core. Thanks to Nvidia's fresh-out-of-the-oven Tegra 3 mobile processors, quad-core chips are all but certain for the next generation of mobile devices. HTC seems to be getting the jump on things, first with a rumored Tegra 3-powered smartphone that could be the first of its kind, and now with a tablet that boasts the same horsepower.

The "Quattro" is a 10.1 inch tablet with 1 GB of ram and 16gb of on-board storage. It's also said to be one of HTC's many new devices shipping with Beats Audio.

We're curious to see what kind of performance boost four cores in a mobile device will buy you, but it looks like may be a while yet. Neither the Quattro, nor the previously announced Edge phone are set to debut until 2012.
