Overly nerdy quibbles aside, The Raven is a rather intriguing high-concept film.

In this gritty period action-thriller, John Cusack plays the legendary Edgar Allan Poe, who must join forces with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a serial killer who is using Poe's own works as the thesis in a string of brutal murders. Initially, the sharp eye of the law places Poe as the primary suspect, but soon it's clear that the mysterious manslaughterer is taunting our literally hero, looking to engage in a battle of wits that also ends up threatening the life of his beloved Emily.

With that in mind, it's no surprise that the trailer for The Raven looks mysterious and gruesome. It's fun to see the legendary writer's various work like The Pit and the Pendulum featured in the clip, but we're not completely buying Cusack as Poe. His delivery with some of the dated dialogue sounds pretty hokey. Think Hot Tub Time Machine meets 1408. There's plenty of ravens in The Raven for you to look at, so press play, and enjoy!

Directed by V For Vendetta's James McTeigue, the film also stars Alice Eve, Luke Evans, Brendan Gleeson, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and will hit theaters on March 9, 2012.
