The Kinect Uses 3-D Modeling To Guess Your Age

The Kinect continues to impress.

None

As if the Kinect wasn’t mind-blowing enough in allowing us to explore the limitations of the recently possible, a patent application has revealed its ability to map a user’s body in 3-D and thus guess his or her age. The application of the technology is specifically geared towards parental control, preventing kids from consuming age-restricted content by automatically updating user profiles after mapping with settings which control access to the device. Even more impressively, the Kinect will switch off or away from unsuitable content when a minor enters the Kinect’s field of vision—it resumes its regular course when the minor leaves. All because of metrics such as ratio of arm length to body height.

Parents come out on top here, but something tells me the technology will be deployed in a plethora of other manners.
